Simply Tents BlackList

by SShakusora

Simply Tents BlackList is a Forge utility addon for the Tents mod that lets server administrators stop chosen blocks and items from being packed into tents.

ForgeServer required, client optionalMIT License1.20.1

What it does

Tents lets players pick up an area with a tent, and this addon limits what that pickup may take. Server administrators build a blacklist of blocks by registry name, and a second list of items, so a tent that touches a blacklisted block stays in the world rather than being moved. Entities and block entities holding blacklisted items are checked the same way, and the pickup only moves blocks and entities that pass every check.

Block tags and item tags can be used in place of single names, so one entry can cover a whole category of content. The item check is recursive: it scans the NBT data of entities and block entities, which lets it find a blacklisted item stored inside a chest or carried by a mob. Settings are read from a server config file, and the addon needs the Tents mod itself to do anything. It runs on the server and is optional on the client.

The mod is published for Forge only, with a single build, 1.0.0 for 1.20.1, released on 2026-04-07. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source in the catalog's sense. The first and last update dates are both 2026-04-07.

Key features

  1. Block blacklist

Blocks listed by registry name are kept in place when a tent is picked up, so valuable or restricted blocks stay where they are.

  2. Item blacklist

Entities and block entities that hold a listed item are left behind, and the check can match whole tag groups.

  3. Recursive item detection

The scan reads entity and block entity NBT data, so blacklisted items inside containers are found as well.

  4. Server-side config

Administrators set every rule in the server config file, with no client-side setup required.

  5. Safe pickup

Only blocks and entities that pass the checks are packed into the tent, and everything else remains in the world.

How it compares

Full comparison

Tents Blacklist is a server-side addon for 1.20.1 under the MIT License, so only the server needs it. Stress Ball is a different Forge mod for 1.12.2 under the MIT License that both client and server must run, so it covers another version and environment. TooltipsReforgedDyed is a client-side only Forge mod for 1.20.1, also MIT licensed, and it does not touch tent pickup.

Questions

Does Simply Tents BlackList require Tents?

Yes. The addon works with the Tents mod and does nothing without it, so both must be installed on the Forge 1.20.1 server.

Does a player need the addon installed?

No. Server owners install it, and players can join with or without it. Players can join without it.

How are blacklisted items inside containers detected?

The item check is recursive. It scans entity and block entity NBT data, so items stored inside a chest or carried by an entity are matched against the item blacklist.
