TooltipsReforgedDyed
by Yarden-zamir
TooltipsReforgedDyed lets players attach custom tag badges to item tooltips, with rules that show or hide the built-in Minecraft and Forge item tags.
What it does
Custom tags can be assigned to specific items, and a whitelist or blacklist decides which Minecraft and Forge item and block tags appear in tooltips. Wildcard patterns such as minecraft:mineable match several tags with one rule. Tag text colors are generated automatically, and a color can be set by hand where needed.
The mod reads its configuration file and applies edits on the next hover, so changes do not need a restart. It also adds trade information to the tooltips of items from the Wares and Prepare Dye integrations, when those mods are installed. The project is open source under the MIT License.
Installation needs only Forge for Minecraft 1.20.1, since the mod is client-side only and servers can run without it. Files are published for 1.20.1 alone, with version 0.3.2 as the latest, released on 2026-02-02.
Key features
Custom item tags
Players and pack makers can add their own tag badges to specific items, shown alongside the vanilla tooltip text.
Tag whitelist and blacklist
Configurable rules decide which Minecraft and Forge item and block tags are displayed and which are hidden.
Wildcard patterns
A pattern such as minecraft:mineable matches several tags at once, so one entry can cover a whole group.
Hot reload of config
Edits to the config file take effect on the next tooltip hover without restarting the game.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Modpack tooltip cleanup
A pack maker can hide noisy vanilla and Forge tags and keep only the badges that help players identify items.
Trade details in tooltips
Players using the Wares or Prepare Dye integrations see trade information directly on the item they hover over.
Who it’s for: Modpack authors and players who want more information in item tooltips, and who want control over which tags those tooltips display.
How it compares
Just Enough Tooltips is an MIT-licensed, client-side Forge mod for 1.16.1 – 1.20.6, so it covers a wider version range than this mod. AutoDropX is a client-side Forge mod for 1.20.1 under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, and it does not handle item tags. Tag Tooltips runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 26.1.2 and is not open source, so it differs in both loaders and license.
