Simply Reimagined

by MultiBana

Simply Reimagined changes core survival mechanics, removing several features the author considered unnecessary, and reshapes sprinting, hunger, experience and enchanting in Minecraft 1.20.1.

What it does

The mod revamps how survival mechanics work with a slower, more relaxed sandbox pace. Sprinting is removed, walking is set faster, and swimming can still be done at a slower speed. Hunger drains slowly while walking, but it still refills health as usual. The author describes the aim as a less rigid RPG feel, with a more lonely, hostile world that tame animals and builds help to liven up.

Experience changes most of the progression. The experience bar and experience point sources are removed, so experience levels no longer shape the flow of play. Enchanting is rebuilt around books: the enchanting table is removed and enchantments are applied only with books, which drop from loot chests. Many enchantments have been nerfed or removed, and a smaller set of common ones remain, making enchantments a bonus rather than a goal. Several of the remaining enchantments are listed in the author text, among them armor and weapon effects, Quick Charge, and Impaling on a trident enchanted with Sharpness.

Installation is Fabric only, for Minecraft 1.20.1, and the mod is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, with source code published. The server and every player need the mod installed. Its files were first published on 2024-03-15, and the latest Fabric file is 1.0.4 from 2024-05-03.

Key features

  1. Sprinting removed

Sprinting no longer exists, and the walking speed is raised so movement still feels quick enough.

  2. Slower hunger drain

Hunger falls slowly while walking because sprinting no longer uses food, though it still restores health.

  3. Experience bar removed

The experience bar and its point sources are gone, so levels do not set the pace of play, and dying costs fewer levels.

  4. Books-only enchanting

The enchanting table is removed, and enchantments apply through books that drop from loot chests.

What the author says

Sprinting takes away both the fear of enemies, and the slow, relaxed pace the game should have. Removing sprinting also vastly reduces the need for food, and you no longer need to stop and eat every minute. Walking speed is plenty fast enough, and just feels much better. ### - Swim-sprinting enabled, but slower ### …
