Server Tick

by sammko

Server Tick makes the F3 TPS graph in the debug screen work on a server, showing server tick rate to the players who can see it.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.16 – 1.20.2

What it does

Ordinarily, the F3 debug screen's TPS graph reflects only the local client, so the feature stays confined to single-player or the player's own game. This mod carries that graph over to servers, so an operator can read the tick rate of a running server from inside the game. The mod is server-side only: the server runs it and players join without installing anything, though the graph appears only for players with permission.

By default only players with operator status see the graph, and the set of players able to view it can be changed in the configuration. The mod does not work on LAN games, where the graph would be visible to everyone in the session. Server Tick is published for Fabric alone, across 19 release versions 1.16 – 1.20.2, and the latest file is 1.9 for 1.20.2.

Vanilla Minecraft has offered a server-side TPS graph since 1.20.2, so on that version the mod duplicates built-in behavior. The mod's source code and issue tracker are public, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Server-side TPS graph

The F3 debug screen shows a tick rate graph sourced from the server, not from the local client.

  2. Operator-only visibility

By default only operators see the graph, and the permitted group can be adjusted in the configuration file.

  3. Configurable access

Access to the graph is controlled per server, so server owners decide who gets the debug data.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server owners and operators who want the tick rate of a multiplayer server visible in the debug screen. Players who only join servers need nothing installed.

Questions

Does Server Tick need to be installed on the client?

Yes, the mod must be installed on both the server and the client. Problems occur when a client connects without it, so the server and every player need the mod.

Who can see the TPS graph?

By default only players with operator status see the graph. The set of players who can view it is configurable, and the graph does not show in LAN games for everyone.

Does Server Tick work with Paper?

The mod is a Fabric mod, so it runs on Fabric servers. For Paper servers, a plugin that works alongside the client-side version of this mod is available.

What the author says

Please note this mod is no longer developed, as a server-side TPS graph is available in vanilla since ~1.20.2. This Minecraft mod makes the TPS graph in the F3 Debug screen work on servers in the same way as in singleplayer. The mod must be installed both on the server and on the client for it to work, however no…
