retroEMI Forge
by Xy_Luce
retroEMI Forge brings the EMI recipe viewer to Forge 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, with the same searchable item and recipe screens as the original.
What it does
retroEMI is an unofficial port of EMI, a recipe viewer that lists items, shows how each one is crafted and what it is used in, and offers a screen for browsing the whole item set. The port targets Forge 1.12.2 and Forge 1.7.10 and runs under Cleanroom on the newer build. Its source is open source under the MIT License, and the project keeps an issue tracker for reports.
Installation needs MixinBooter on 1.12.2 and the other libraries the author text names for the 1.7.10 build. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. Files cover 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, and the latest Forge file for 1.12.2 is the beta 1.1.24-beta.3 published on 2026-08-24.
Key features
Craftable mode
A toggle in the config shows only recipes a player can craft from the items already in the inventory.
Favorited recipes
Recipes can be favorited so a single button press crafts them using the items in the inventory.
Recipe breakdowns
Recipe trees break complex items down into base ingredients, with the count of each and the steps between them.
Smart tags and tooltips
Item tags are shown with translations and model tooltips, so ingredients can be identified at a glance instead of rotating through every plank type.

Use cases
Modpack testing
Pack builders on GTNH-style setups can check how items craft and which ingredients a recipe chain needs.
Who it’s for: Players using 1.7.10 or 1.12.2 Forge who want a searchable recipe viewer, and server owners who need every player to run the same viewer.
How it compares
EMI is a separate Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt recipe viewer for 1.18.2 – 1.21.1, client required and server optional, and it is open source under the MIT License. Not Enough Items is a client-side only Forge viewer for 1.2.5 – 1.12.2, also under the MIT License. retroEMI is the Forge build of EMI for 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, so it is the option when a Forge 1.12.2 pack already uses that family of viewers.
