Redstonecompiler

by aaa6795

Redstonecompiler is a server-side optimization mod that compiles large redstone circuits into native JVM code, targeting lag caused by heavy machines on Fabric and Quilt.

What it does

Vanilla redstone recalculates each wire and repeater separately on every update, so a large circuit can take milliseconds per tick and slow the whole server. Redstonecompiler replaces that flow for supported circuits: it generates a Java class at runtime with ASM, compiles the circuit's logic into native code, and lets the JVM's JIT compiler optimize the result. The compiled circuit is then evaluated through a single method call.

The mod covers redstone wire, repeaters, comparators and logic operations, including comparator COMPARE and SUBTRACT modes, logic inversion and GreaterThan logic. Repeater delay stays at one tick per stage, so the timing of signal propagation is preserved. Small circuits gain little, since compilation overhead roughly cancels out the speedup, so the largest benefit appears in mega-builds such as multi-bit ALUs and auto-sorters. Fabric API is required, and Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional. The files target Minecraft 1.20.1 only, for Fabric and Quilt, and are released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license, so the code is not open source.

Key features

  1. Runtime circuit compilation

The whole circuit's logic is turned into a native method by ASM, replacing per-component scanning with one call.

  2. Full logic component set

Redstone wire, repeaters and comparators are supported, with COMPARE and SUBTRACT comparator modes and logic inversion.

  3. Arithmetic and bit operations

Circuits built from ADD, SUB, AND, OR, XOR, NOT, SHL and SHR operations can be compiled as well.

  4. Timing preservation

Repeater delay stays at one tick per stage, so signal propagation timing matches vanilla behavior.

Use cases

Large server builds

Multi-bit ALUs, auto-sorters and other mega-builds with hundreds of components benefit most from compilation.

Who it’s for: Server owners running redstone-heavy worlds on Fabric or Quilt, and builders whose large machines cause tick lag.

Questions

Does Redstonecompiler need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

What does Redstonecompiler require?

Fabric API is required. Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional dependencies.

Does the mod change how redstone behaves?

The mod keeps repeater delay at one tick per stage so propagation timing is preserved, but it changes how large circuits are evaluated.

Which versions does Redstonecompiler support?

The mod is published for Minecraft 1.20.1 only, with 0.2.0-alpha on Fabric and Quilt, released 2026-06-09 on the alpha channel.

In the catalog

Redstonecompiler is one of 3,545 Optimization mods on ModsFinder, and one of 2,575 Optimization mods for Fabric. 34,764 mods support Minecraft 1.20.1.

What the author says

Key technique: ASM dynamically generates a Java class at runtime, compiling the entire circuit's logic into native JVM bytecode. The JVM's JIT compiler then further optimizes this into native machine code, delivering hand-written-code-level performance. Result: No significant difference. Small circuits are fast…
