Recipe Book Plus

by GibbDev

Recipe Book Plus replaces the vanilla recipe book screen with a custom interface that groups and searches recipes for players on Fabric and NeoForge.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21.1 – 26.2

What it does

The mod is a client-side quality-of-life addition for the vanilla recipe book. It targets the plain layout of the original screen and offers a restyled, more decorated recipe book in place of it. A config option switches back to a layout that stays close to vanilla for players who prefer it. Since only the client needs the mod, a server does not have to install it.

Recipe Book Plus requires Fabric API, and Mod Menu is optional for opening its settings from the game menu. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, with 1.0.4 as the latest file for 1.21.1, and the newest builds also support 26.2. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later, and the source code and issue tracker are publicly linked.

Key features

  1. Custom recipe book screen

A newly built interface with a restyled recipe book replaces the plain vanilla screen, added in version 1.0.4.

  2. Recipe search by ingredient

Recipes can be searched by an item used as an ingredient, and a default search prefix narrows results to a chosen mod or item set.

  3. Colored item tagging

Items can be marked with one of 16 colors, so frequently used entries stand out in the recipe list.

  4. Adjustable toggle behavior

The toggle for opening the recipe book can be set to behave in a different way, and the vanilla-like layout remains available through the config.

Use cases

Learning recipes in a long playthrough

A player who wants to keep recipe discovery slow can use the vanilla-like layout and avoid a full list of craftable items on screen.

Finding crafts from a mod pack

Searching by ingredient helps when a modpack adds many recipes and the player needs to locate one that uses a given item.

Who it’s for: Players who use the vanilla recipe book and want a more decorated screen, search by ingredient or colored tags, without the full item lists and tooltip overlays of larger recipe viewers.

What the author says

A small, client side mod that aims at improving dinky vanilla recipe book with unobtrusive QoL features. Mojang did really drop the ball with recipe system so here I am. Allows searching for recipes that use that item as an ingredient. By default, search prefix is "$"
