ReBlured
by cheaterpaul
ReBlured applies a blur effect to the backgrounds of GUI screens, so the world behind an open inventory is less distracting.
What it does
When a menu is open, the world behind it is softened by a blur layer. A config option sets how strong the blur is, and another sets the fade-in time in milliseconds. Players who find the blur costly on their hardware can lower the strength to ease performance problems.
Forge and NeoForge are the supported loaders, with builds for 1.18.2 – 1.20.4 across nine release versions. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
GUI background blur
Screens such as the inventory get a blurred version of the game world as their background.
Adjustable blur strength
A config value controls how strong the blur is, from a light softening to a heavy one.
Fade-in timing
A config value sets how many milliseconds the blur takes to fade in when a screen opens.
Config screen
The settings are documented in the config explanation, so each option can be changed without editing unrelated files.

Use cases
Less distraction in menus
Players who find the world moving behind an inventory or crafting screen distracting can keep the menus easier to read.
Tuning for slower machines
Lowering the blur strength is the adjustment the author suggests when the effect causes performance problems.
Who it’s for: Players on Forge or NeoForge who want a calmer background behind menus. Because the mod is client-side only, servers do not need to install it.
How it compares
Blur Forge (Unofficial) is open source under the MIT License, runs on Forge and NeoForge, and covers 1.18.2 – 1.20.1, so it has no build for 1.20.4. Inventory Blur is a Fabric and NeoForge mod released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license and is not open source. Smooth Gui is open source under the MIT License and also supports Fabric and Quilt, which ReBlured does not.
