Purescale
by xsoras
Purescale renders the game at a lower resolution and rebuilds the image to the screen's size, so a GPU has fewer pixels to draw each frame.
What it does
Purescale is a client-side optimization mod that trades some image detail for frame rate. The game is drawn at a reduced resolution and an upscaler reconstructs the picture at the monitor's native size. Fewer rendered pixels means less GPU work, and the result usually keeps a sharp image while giving a useful performance gain. The mod can be tried with several settings, since the sharpest option is not always the one that suits play.
Frame generation is available as an extra feature. It inserts additional frames between the rendered ones, which gives movement a smoother appearance, and it works most usefully when the GPU already has spare capacity, such as with demanding shaders or path tracing at higher resolutions. The available upscalers and options depend on the Minecraft version. Sodium is required, and on Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 the author recommends Embeddium instead.
The mod is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is not open source. It targets 1.7.10 – 26.3 across 29 release versions on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt and Legacy Fabric, and only the client needs it.
Key features
Reduced render resolution
The game is drawn at a lower resolution and reconstructed to fill the screen, which lowers the pixel count the GPU must process.
Several upscalers
Options include AMD's FSR1 along with XSSS and XAIS reconstruction methods, and the choices vary by Minecraft version.
Native-resolution interface
HUD, menus, chat and inventory icons stay at native resolution, so text and interface elements remain crisp.
Frame generation
An optional mode inserts extra frames between rendered ones, making movement appear smoother during play.

What the author says
Purescale is a client-side mod for getting more FPS out of the GPU you already have. It combines upscaling and frame generation, and runs on pretty much any GPU. It renders the game at a lower resolution, then rebuilds the image back to your screen’s resolution. Fewer pixels to render means less work for your GPU…
