Potion Books

by Litleo7

Potion Books lets a player attach vanilla potion effects to armor, tools and other gear through enchantment-style books, and it is a Forge mod for 1.16.5.

What it does

The mod adds most vanilla potion effects as enchantments that go mainly on armor and tools. Each enchantment fires on a trigger: taking damage, jumping, falling, eating food, entering water, hitting a mob or breaking a block. Some effects, such as Instant Health and Instant Damage, apply once on the trigger, while others such as Water Breathing, Fire Resistance and Jump Boost last for a period. Certain triggers fire only a fraction of the time, with a 10% or 5% chance per event.

Because the effects are enchantments, they are applied with the usual enchanting and combining steps, so they can be stacked or moved onto other pieces of equipment in the same way. Dolphin's Grace, Slow Falling and Conduit Power are included among the effects. Potion Books is built for 1.16.5 only, and the latest Forge file is 1.0.0. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too. The mod is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Vanilla effects as enchantments

Most vanilla potion effects become enchantments that can be applied to equipment instead of drunk.

  2. Trigger-based activation

Each effect activates on a set action, such as taking damage, falling, jumping or breaking a block.

  3. Chance-based triggers

Damage-triggered effects fire on a 10% or 5% chance, so their activation is occasional rather than constant.

  4. Instant and lasting effects

Instant Health and Instant Damage act once per trigger, while Water Breathing and Fire Resistance last for a period.
