Poses
by Calyren
Poses lets a player hold a set of ten preset poses, shown on the character, as a way to interact with other players in Minecraft.
What it does
Poses adds ten preset poses that a character can strike and hold while playing, shown on the model so other players can see them. The poses are meant to give players a personal way to express themselves without changing how the game plays otherwise, and the vanilla feel is kept intact.
Poses is a client-side only mod: it needs to be installed on the player's side, while the server can run without it. It works on Fabric and Quilt for 1.20.1, with version 1.1 as the latest file for both loaders, released on 2025-04-01. The code is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Because the mod changes only what a player's character shows, it suits multiplayer servers and single-player worlds alike. Players who want to use items while posing can have that prevented through a datapack that marks items as non-usable with a tag.
Key features
Ten preset poses
Ten different poses can be struck, giving players a range of gestures to hold while standing or moving.
Visible to other players
Poses appear on the character model, so nearby players see the gesture being made during play.
Vanilla gameplay kept
The poses are cosmetic, and the rest of the game keeps its standard mechanics.
Item use can be disabled
A datapack can add items to a tag that stops them from being used while a pose is active.

Use cases
Roleplay and social play
Players on a server can use the poses to act out scenes or greet one another during play.
Screenshots and videos
The poses give a way to stage a character for images or footage without moving the camera.
Who it’s for: Players who want a simple way to express themselves in multiplayer or single-player worlds, and server owners who want a light social addition that keeps the game close to vanilla.
How it compares
OhSit is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 that works on a client or a server, with neither side required, and it is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Strike a Pose is not open source; it is released under All rights reserved, supports Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt for 1.21 – 26.2, and needs the server to run it while the client may skip it. Poses differs from both by being a client-side only mod for Fabric and Quilt on 1.20.1.
| Mod | Loaders | Game versions | Environment | Updated |
