Pokemeteors

by Emafire003

Pokemeteors lets Cobblemon Pokémon arrive inside falling meteors, with spawn chances and sizes set by data files on Fabric and NeoForge.

What it does

Pokemeteors adds meteors that fall from the sky and can carry Pokémon inside them. A falling meteor starts above a Pokémon's spawn position and creates an impact crater where the Pokémon lands. Small, medium and big meteors each have their own core color, and the big meteor can also place a Pokémon directly, without a meteor structure around it. Meteors that fall toward caves are stopped before they reach them, so they explode on the surface instead.

Pokémon that normally spawn in a biome keep following Cobblemon's spawn rules, and the mod checks whether a spawn falls inside a meteor. Which species can arrive in a meteor is set in a JSON file under data/pokemeteors/spawns/, where each entry gives the Pokémon's id and the chance of it spawning in a meteor compared with spawning normally. For example, a chance set to 2 makes a Pokémon spawn inside a meteor half the time. Meteor size is set with a minimum, a maximum between 1 and 50, and bigger meteors produce bigger explosions. The mod is published for Fabric and NeoForge, targeting 1.21 – 1.21.1, and is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Pokémon inside meteors

Species placed in data files spawn inside falling meteors, and the meteor lands where the Pokémon would have appeared.

  2. Per-size meteor chances

Small, medium and big meteors each carry their own spawn chances for the Pokémon they can hold.

  3. Configurable spawn data

Species, chances and the meteor size range are set with JSON files, so the spawn list can be changed without code.

  4. Impact craters

Each meteor leaves a crater where it lands, and its size follows the meteor size.

What the author says

When a pokémon normally spawns, the mod checks if it should spawn inside a meteor (configurable with datapacks), and with which chance. Then, a falling meteor spawns in the sky above the pokémon's spawn position, creating an impact crater along with a meteor and the pokémon itself when it lands. The pokémon follows…
