PlantsAnywhere

by backstube-gaming

PlantsAnywhere lets players place most plant blocks on open air, so flowers, grasses and similar plants no longer need a block underneath them.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.4 – 1.20.6

What it does

Plants placed by a player on bare air stay in place instead of breaking, which makes it possible to decorate builds with plants that vanilla rules would not allow. The mod also covers structure blocks and world generation, so plants placed through those paths are affected too. Two-block plants are handled as a pair: breaking the bottom half breaks the upper half as well, while the upper half can be broken alone and the bottom half remains.

The author notes the mod was written with creative builders in mind, and says it is intended as a decorative addition rather than a gameplay change. Cocoa beans, coral fans and dried bush are among the plant blocks it covers. The mod is available for Fabric only, across the 1.20.4 – 1.20.6 range. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under the MIT License, which makes it open source.

Bug reports are taken through the issue tracker, and the source code is public. The author describes the mod as an essential dependency for a larger upcoming mod, which is planned to be developed alongside it. Support for other Minecraft versions is low priority for now and may change in the future.

Key features

  1. Plants on air

Most plant blocks can be placed on air, so flowers and similar plants stand without solid ground beneath them.

  2. Structure and generation support

Plants placed by structure blocks and during world generation are affected by the same rules as player placements.

  3. Paired tall plants

Breaking the bottom half of a two-block plant also breaks the top half, while breaking only the top leaves the bottom in place.

  4. Cocoa, coral fans and dried bush

Cocoa beans, coral fans and dried bush are among the blocks that can be placed on open air.

How it compares

Full comparison

Productive Plants is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1 with a different purpose, and it is open source under the MIT License. Its environment is client required, with the server optional. Air Place is a Fabric, Forge and Quilt mod for 1.20.2 – 1.20.4, released under the MIT License, and it is not open source. Its environment is server required, with the client optional, so it differs from PlantsAnywhere, which needs both sides.

What the author says

This mod lets you place almost all plants and plant like blocks anywhere. Even the air. It does not influence world generation at all.
