PingMention

by FireLegend

PingMention plays a sound when another player's chat message names the local player, so a mention is not missed in a busy channel.

FabricClient-side onlyMIT License1.21.11

What it does

The client watches incoming chat and checks each line for a mention of the local player's name. When a message names the player, a short audio cue plays. Nothing changes on the server, and no other player sees anything, which makes the mod useful on multiplayer servers and in single-player worlds alike.

The mod is client-side only, so only the player who installs it needs it, and servers run without it. It is published for Fabric alone, with a single build for 1.21.11. The code is under the MIT License, but the project is not open source in the sense of a public repository, so the license text is the only public record. Its files are in the beta channel.

Key features

  1. Mention sound alert

A sound plays when an incoming chat line names the player, so the alert arrives without the player reading each message.

  2. Works on any server

Because the alert runs entirely on the client, the mod works on servers and in single-player worlds without any server-side installation.

  3. Minimal footprint

The mod is small and does its work only when chat arrives, so it adds very little to the cost of playing.

  4. Clear audio cue

The sound is chosen to stand out from ordinary chat activity, so a mention can be noticed without looking at the screen.

Use cases

Busy group chats

A player in a large server channel can keep focus on other tasks and still hear when someone names them.

Long play sessions

Players who step away from the screen for stretches can return to find that mentions were flagged by sound.

Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who join multiplayer servers or play busy single-player chats and want an audible alert when their name appears in chat. The mod does not need the server owner's involvement.
