What it does

Picture Axe is a Decoration mod that lets players put images from the web into a Minecraft world in several ways. A special tool, the PicAxe, copies image URLs and applies them to blocks, while a simple screen stores a link for later use. Image beds, a six-sided image block and a resizable image frame extend the set of placeable pieces, and one unified system controls all of them.

Every player and the server need a copy of the mod. It is open source under the MIT License and has files for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with builds covering 1.20.1 – 1.21.8 and the latest file, 1.0.9, released 2025-08-27. Source code, an issue tracker and a wiki are linked from its public pages.

Key features

  1. Image tool

The PicAxe applies a copied image to a block, bed, banner or shield on right-click.

  2. URL input screen

Sneaking and right-clicking in the air opens a screen where a link is pasted and confirmed.

  3. Six-sided image block

A creative block takes a different image on each of its six faces, for detailed displays.

  4. Resizable image frame

A frame block can be sized from 1x1 up to 6x6, with the image stretched or fitted to keep its aspect ratio.

Use cases

Decorating builds

Players hang artwork, signs and posters on walls, floors and furniture built from vanilla blocks.

Hidden art

Six-sided blocks let builders place images on surfaces where a single picture would not fit.

Who it’s for: Builders and map makers who want web images in survival or creative worlds, and server owners who run the mod for their players.

Questions

Does Picture Axe need other mods?

Yes. Architectury API and Balm are required dependencies, so both must be installed alongside Picture Axe.

Must the server run Picture Axe?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Which image links work well?

URLs that end in .png or .jpg give the strongest results, according to the author.

Which loaders have Picture Axe?

Files exist for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and the latest file for each loader is version 1.0.9.
