Phlox
by PadjokeJ
Phlox is a Fabric library for registering and rendering shaders, which other mods can call to draw their own effects.
What it does
Phlox gives mod authors a registration point for shaders, so a mod can declare its shader programs once and let the library handle loading them. Each shader can be activated only when a chosen condition is met, so effects that are not needed stay off. The library is aimed at developers who want a shared rendering layer rather than writing shader setup in every mod.
The project's public source code, issue tracker and wiki are linked from its listing. Fabric API is required. Phlox runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, which makes it open source. Its files cover 26.1.2 and 26.2, and the latest build is 1.0.3-26.2 for 26.2, published 2026-07-31, after a first release on 2026-07-18.
The author notes describe a planned move of more rendering code from individual mods into this library, which would make Phlox the place where shared rendering logic lives over time.
Key features
Shader registration
Mods register their shader programs with Phlox, which keeps them in one place for later use.
Condition-based activation
A shader can be switched on only when a condition the mod defines is true.
Simple registration API
The registration step is meant to be short, so adding shaders to a mod takes little code.
Shared rendering layer
Other mods can rely on the library for shader rendering instead of carrying their own copy of the setup.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Requirements
Dependencies declared by the latest file for each loader.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Phlox is meant for mod developers who add shader effects to Fabric mods. Players who only want to play with existing mods have no reason to install it unless one of those mods requires it.
How it compares
Tenreg is a Fabric library for the 1.21.11 release, with the client and server environment and the MIT License, so it is open source. Lazuli Lib is a Fabric library for 1.20 – 1.21.11 that runs on the client only and is also released under the MIT License. OverlayLib covers 1.21.11 – 26.3, runs on the client only, and is not open source, with a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial Share Alike 4.0 license.
