Phantom Footsteps
by angelmp4
Phantom Footsteps, a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1, adds invisible sounds that seem to follow the player through caves, nights and quiet builds.
What it does
Stalker Sounds play footsteps on stone, wood and dirt directly behind the player, sometimes with no one there. Shadow Figures are rare visual apparitions that flash at the edge of the screen for a moment. Together they are meant to break silence in a world and make a player feel watched, which suits psychological horror play.
A Sanity Meter tracks how long a player stays in the dark, and the longer that lasts the more often the real footsteps appear. Watcher Effects add subtle environmental cues that create unease, useful in horror-themed modpacks. Custom Curses raise the intensity of hauntings for each item the player holds, so the scare level depends on what the player carries.
The mod is published for NeoForge only, on 1.21.1, and is client and server: both the server and every player need it. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source. It has no required dependencies.

How it compares
PhantomTamer is a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1 with the same client and server environment, under All rights reserved and not open source, so it adds a different feature set. Tame Phantom is also a NeoForge mod for 1.21.1, client and server, but it is released under the MIT License. Oip's Subtle Horror is NeoForge only for 1.21.8 – 1.21.11, so it targets later game versions than Phantom Footsteps.
