Pets Mod
by Pets Team
Pets Mod adds client-side pets for the player, with three custom mobs, a penguin and a raccoon, and support for many vanilla mobs.
What it does
Pets Mod runs on the client alone, so a player can use pets in singleplayer and on servers without the server installing anything. Vanilla mobs can serve as pets, and some of the custom ones also work on servers, including singleplayer worlds. The mob pack covers three mobs built for the mod, each with custom ambient sounds, along with custom interactions with the player.
The mod has its own configuration screen. Through it a player can toggle the mod, switch between pets, and change a pet's appearance by choosing skins and names. Settings are stored in a file in the .minecraft/config folder and are read when a player enters a new world. Custom commands also handle toggling and switching pets.
Pets Mod depends on Cloth Config API, Fabric API, UniMixins and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL), which must all be installed alongside it. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, Quilt, Java Agent, Legacy Fabric, LiteLoader, ModLoader, NilLoader, Ornithe and Rift, across 89 release versions 1.5.1 – 26.3, under the MIT License.

Use cases
Solo cosmetic companions
A player in a singleplayer world can keep a pet that follows them, changing its look at any time through the configuration screen.
Who it’s for: Players who want a companion in singleplayer or on a server without asking the server owner to install anything, and modders who build pet packs for it.
How it compares
Inventory Pets is also client-side only and open source under the MIT License, but it targets 26.1 – 26.3 on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt. More Pets runs as client and server on NeoForge for 1.21.4 only, and is not open source. Just Pet Bed is server required with an optional client, is for 1.21.11 on four loaders, and carries All rights reserved.

What the author says
PetsMod comes with its own configuration screen and custom commands to easily toggle between pets, change whether the mod is enabled at all, and switch up the appearance of your pets with skins and names. There is no need to do this multiple times - all of this information is stored in a config file locatated…
