PacketLogger

by Ari24-cb24

PacketLogger is a Fabric mod that records the network packets a client sends and receives, and shows them in a web interface.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU Affero General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19.3 – 1.19.4

What it does

The mod runs on the client only, so servers do not need it. Once installed, it starts a web interface on port 8080 and a websocket on port 1337 by default. The default web interface connects to the websocket and receives packet information as JSON data, and a separate client can connect to the websocket to receive the same data. The protocol is defined in protocol.md in the source repository. Packet information is loaded in chunks and lazily to reduce traffic.

The mod is published for Fabric only, with two release versions, 1.19.3 and 1.19.4. The latest file is 1.6.1 for 1.19.4, dated 2023-05-12. PacketLogger is open source and released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 only. The source code, issue tracker and wiki are public.

Key features

  1. Packet logging on the client

Packets are captured and validated on the client side, so the mod records traffic without any server component.

  2. Web interface

A built-in web interface lists packet information, with a default port of 8080 that can be changed in the in-game config.

  3. Websocket feed

A websocket on port 1337 by default streams packet data as JSON, which other tools can read in place of the web interface.

  4. In-game configuration

Ports and other settings can be changed through an in-game config screen.

Questions

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Which ports does PacketLogger use?

Will PacketLogger receive new updates?

The author has stopped developing the mod and moved its frontend to wisp-forest/gadget, which is named as the alternative. The latest file is 1.6.1 for 1.19.4.

What the author says

Since I don't have the time to work on the frontend and the backend, I will discontinue this PacketLogger project. But don't worry, the frontend won't be for nothing. Developing on both sides takes up a lot of time, especially if you want to implement cool new features on the frontend while the backend contains bugs…
