PacketEvents
by retrooper
PacketEvents is a protocol library for Minecraft Java Edition that lets other mods read, modify and send network packets through one API.
What it does
The library handles the processing and transmission of packets between the server and clients. Mods that depend on it can listen to packet events, change their contents and send new packets without writing their own protocol code for each game version.
Fabric is the loader the catalog lists for this build, and it works across a wide span: files cover 1.7.10 – 26.3 with 76 release versions. The latest Fabric file is 2.14.0+fabric for 26.3, published 2026-09-23. Three other catalog mods require PacketEvents: Kenshin's Hide And Seek, BetterScoreboard and BetterAnticheat.
The library is also available for Paper, Spigot, Bukkit, Purpur, Folia, Sponge, Velocity, BungeeCord and Waterfall. It is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with public links to its source code, issue tracker and wiki. The first release was published 2023-08-22.
Key features
Packet event listening
Other mods can register handlers that run when a packet is sent or received, and inspect its contents.
Packet modification
Handlers can alter packet fields before they reach their destination, which lets a mod change what a player sees.
Packet sending
Mods can build and transmit their own packets, including ones the vanilla game never sends.
Version abstraction
A single API covers many game versions, so a dependent mod does not need separate protocol code for each release.

Use cases
Anti-cheat and moderation
Anti-cheat mods such as BetterAnticheat rely on packet inspection to check client behavior.
Scoreboard and display changes
BetterScoreboard uses the library to alter what packets carry for scoreboard display.
Cross-platform server plugins
Because the library supports several server platforms, one packet-handling approach can serve networks that mix Paper, Velocity and other servers.
Who it’s for: Mod developers who need to read or send network packets, and server owners who run mods that depend on PacketEvents.
