ORB speeds up the recipe book, the Creative search menu and the loading of recipe advancements for Forge and NeoForge worlds.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

ORB reduces the lag that the recipe book can cause during play. Recipe book data is stored in its own dedicated folder instead of the player NBT data, so the player data no longer carries recipe book entries. Granting or recording large numbers of recipes, such as through the recipe give command, takes less time. Loading a world where many recipe advancements are already recorded is also faster, since player advancement data is read more efficiently.

The recipe book and the Creative search menu are updated asynchronously. The search index is rebuilt and refreshed in the background, and the checking of which recipes are craftable runs off the main thread. While the search index is not ready yet, the game shows a progress message rather than stalling. The recipe book itself is not removed, so players keep the same interface.

Installation applies to Forge and NeoForge only, for the game versions 1.20.1 and 1.21.1. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. ORB is open source and released under the MIT License. Some other mods that change how the server sends recipe book data to the client are incompatible with it.

Key features

  1. Faster recipe book

The recipe book runs with less lag and no spikes tied to its data, and the book itself stays in the game.

  2. Asynchronous search index

The search index for the recipe book and the Creative search menu is rebuilt and refreshed in the background.

  3. Separate recipe book data

Recipe book entries are saved in a dedicated folder, so player NBT data no longer contains them.

  4. Faster advancement loading

Worlds with many recorded recipe advancements load more quickly because advancement data is read faster.
