Ophidiophobia

by Zcoper

Ophidiophobia adds snakes to Minecraft, most of them hostile, and requires Geckolib to run.

ForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.19.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

Snakes of several kinds spawn in the world. Some hide underground, some drop from trees, and others stalk players from a distance. Most are aggressive and poisonous, while a few species stay peaceful unless provoked. Larger snakes such as anacondas are huge and slow-moving on land but fast in water, and they attack by coiling around a target with a constriction move that is often lethal. Anacondas spawn in mangroves, jungles and swamps, and they can regenerate health after consuming prey.

A snake drops a Snake Egg only occasionally when it is killed. Placing an egg on the ground lets a new snake hatch after about three minutes, and hatched snakes do not despawn. Reading the in-game snake descriptions and bringing a book near snakes adds to a collection task. Most snake types use special spawning conditions, so they appear only in certain biomes.

The mod is published for Forge only, with files for 1.19.2, 1.19.4 and 1.20.1, and the latest file is 1.0.0 for 1.20.1. A config file is included. Client and server both need the mod, and Geckolib must be installed alongside it. The mod is licensed as All rights reserved and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Hostile and peaceful snakes

Most snakes attack when players come too close, while a few species stay peaceful unless provoked.

  2. Anaconda constriction

Anacondas crush targets by coiling around them, and they recover health after eating prey.

  3. Snake eggs and hatching

Killing a snake can yield an egg, which hatches into a snake that does not despawn.

  4. Spawn by biome

Snakes appear in jungles, savannas, deserts, forests, beaches and swamps, each type under its own conditions.

Use cases

Adding wildlife to a survival world

Snakes give jungle, desert and swamp biomes a set of dangerous animals that players must learn to avoid.

A snake collection

The book and description tasks give players a reason to find and study each snake type.

Who it’s for: Players who want dangerous fauna in their worlds, and server owners who run Forge with Geckolib installed on both sides.
