Onomatopoeia

by JeremySeq

Onomatopoeia shows comic-style sound words as animated floating text in the game world, so each sound also appears on screen.

What it does

When a sound plays, the mod draws a matching word in a comic style that floats above the spot where it happened. Examples include POW and WHACK during a fight, a boing when a slime bounces, and lines of dark or terror text tied to moments in the world. Explosions, combat and villager ambience each get their own set of words, and many more are included.

The effects are animated and smooth, and they are meant to add expression and suspense without changing vanilla gameplay. Storytelling, roleplay and cinematic moments benefit most from the extra visual feedback. The project is actively developed, and the author welcomes feedback.

Onomatopoeia runs on the client, so only the player's own game needs it. It is released under the MIT License and is open source, and its source code is public.
