One shot protection

by Aslechi

One shot protection, a Forge server-side mod, changes what happens when a player takes lethal damage: instead of dying outright, the player is left with 10% of maximum health.

ForgeServer-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.1

What it does

When damage would take a player above 90% health, the mod prevents the death and restores the player to 10% of maximum health. After that, a brief immunity period follows during which further damage is nullified, giving the player a short grace period to escape the situation.

The effect is server-sided and configurable. Server owners and modpack developers can choose which damage sources trigger it, including fall damage, void damage and generic kills, and can mark modded damage sources as invalid so they bypass the protection. Configuration files are stored in the OSP folder inside the config folder of the game directory, and the mod does not require any client-side installation.

Installation needs Forge on the server with the mod's dependencies, and the mod is published for 1.20.1 only, with 1.0.0 as the latest file released on 2024-01-29. The code is all rights reserved and not open source.

Key features

  1. Configurable one-shot protection

A lethal hit above 90% health leaves the player at 10% of maximum health instead of killing them.

  2. Immunity period

After the save, damage is nullified for a short time, and a sound cue and particles signal that the effect has triggered and that immunity is active.

  3. Selectable damage sources

Fall damage, void damage, generic kills and other sources can each be set to trigger the protection or to be ignored.

  4. Modded damage handling

Damage sources from other mods can be marked as invalid, so their hits remain fatal even with the protection enabled.

Use cases

Modpack tuning

Modpack developers can decide which damage sources the protection covers, so a pack keeps its intended difficulty.

Server rules

Server owners can set the protection to match their own survival rules, including which hits stay lethal.

Who it’s for: The mod is aimed at players who run a server, server owners, and modpack developers who want control over how survival deaths are handled.

Questions

Does One shot protection need to be installed on the client?

No. Players join without it, since only the server has to run the mod.

Which damage sources can be excluded from the protection?

Server owners can define invalid damage sources in the configuration, so a damage type from another mod stays lethal even when the protection is active.

Where are the configuration files stored?

Options are found in the OSP folder inside the config folder of the game directory, and each setting is explained in the configuration section.

In the catalog
