Nylon

by Wesley1808

Nylon is a Fabric library for server-side content that uses Animated Java custom models and animations, without requiring any client mods.

FabricServer-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.2 – 26.2

What it does

Nylon acts as a bridge between models made with Animated Java and content that lives on the server, such as entities. Blocks written with Polymer can pair custom models, textures and animations exported from Blockbench with block and mob logic that is fully custom. Because the models are updated asynchronously and mounted as display entities, the animations stay smooth, and rotation can be interpolated through configuration instead.

The library supports most Animated Java features, including animation frame effects, conditionally applied effects on specific frames, bone blacklists, animation loop modes and loop start delays. Out of the box it also covers many vanilla mob features. Models and textures can be switched instantly, and listening for pose updates lets a mod react to a specific part of a model. Its authors describe its server impact as minimal, and it is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.

Key features

  1. Server-side custom models

Models from Animated Java are rendered through entities on the server, so players do not need a client mod to see them.

  2. Asynchronous model updates

Models are updated asynchronously, and rotation interpolation can be configured for smoother animation.

  3. Instant model and texture swaps

A model or texture can be switched at runtime, and pose updates can be listened to for individual parts of a model.

  4. Animation frame effects

Effects can be applied conditionally to specific animation frames, with options for bone blacklists, loop modes and loop start delays.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Mod developers who build server-side entities or blocks with animated models, and server owners who want those models without requiring players to install anything.

How it compares

Full comparison

Nylon is server-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and published for Fabric across 1.20.2 – 26.2. Better Player Model is open source under the MIT License and can run on either side, with 1.20.1 – 26.3 coverage, and it targets player models instead. PetSys is also server-side only and runs on Fabric for 1.20.6 – 26.2, but it is not open source and is licensed under the Apache License 2.0.

Questions

Does Nylon need to be installed on the client?

No. It runs on the server alone, so players need nothing extra to join. Only the server needs the mod.

Which Minecraft versions does Nylon support?

Files cover 1.20.2 – 26.2, with 0.13.6 as the latest Fabric file for 26.2, published on 2026-06-18.

Does Nylon work with other mods that use Animated Java?

It supports most Animated Java features, so mods built on Nylon can use models from Animated Java directly on the server.

In the catalog

Nylon is one of 36,990 Utility mods on ModsFinder, and one of 25,772 Utility mods for Fabric. 13,894 mods support Minecraft 26.2.
