NullPass
by DeM0RG
Servers that run NullPass ask every new player to register a password and returning players to log in before they can move or chat.
What it does
Before a player logs in, NullPass holds back moving, chatting, most commands, world interaction, attacking entities and opening containers. New players register an account and registered players log in, with prompts shown in chat, the action bar or the boss bar. Passwords are hashed with salted PBKDF2 and never stored as plain text, and a password is read from a single command argument, so it cannot contain spaces. Password length limits are configurable.
The mod is server-side only, so players join with a normal compatible client and need nothing installed themselves. It is built for NeoForge 1.21.1 and its files cover that version alone. Settings live in the NeoForge common configuration file, nullpass-common.toml, which is generated after the first start in the server's config directory; after editing it, a restart applies the changes. The player-facing messages sit under a messages section and accept legacy color codes. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Registration and login
New players register an account, and registered players must log in before they can play.
Hashed passwords
Passwords are protected with salted PBKDF2 hashing, so the stored value is never the plain password.
Pre-login restrictions
Movement, chat, most commands, world interaction, attacks and container access stay blocked until authentication is complete.
Login attempt limit
With maxLoginAttempts enabled, a wrong password shows a gray counter, and the final failed attempt disconnects the player with the configured message.
Editable messages
Players see the text they get from NullPass in the messages section of the config, and legacy color codes are accepted there.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
How it compares
NefAuth is server-side only, released under the MIT License and built for NeoForge 1.21.1, so it covers the same version as NullPass. Basic Login is also server-side only and under the MIT License, but its files cover 1.21 – 1.21.4 rather than a single version. Login Security - Panda is server-side only and built for 1.21.1 – 1.21.4, and it is licensed as All rights reserved, a custom license that restricts reuse.
