No Hotbar Swap
by mercuri
No Hotbar Swap stops the number keys from switching hotbar slots by accident, which matters when a stray press swaps a sword out for a stack of cobblestone at the wrong moment.
What it does
Number-key slot switching is turned off, so pressing the number keys no longer changes the selected hotbar slot. The mod addresses one input behavior and leaves the rest of the game alone, with no new items, blocks or changes to gameplay. A config option can turn the disabling off, and a modifier key can be set to allow swapping temporarily while it is held.
Only the client needs the mod, so a server running vanilla behavior can be joined without installing anything. Installation needs Fabric API on either loader. Cloth Config API and Mod Menu are optional and add a settings screen for the config. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with source code and an issue tracker public, and files exist for Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1.
Key features
Number keys disabled
Pressing the number keys no longer changes the selected hotbar slot, so an accidental press cannot switch items mid-fight.
Config toggle
A config option lets the player turn the disabling on or off without removing the mod.
Modifier key override
A modifier key can be held to allow number-key swapping for a moment, while the default stays locked.
Narrow scope
The mod changes only how number-key input is handled and adds no other gameplay content.

Use cases
Fast combat play
Players who bump a number key during a fight keep their weapon selected, because the swap does not happen.
Building with fixed slots
Builders who keep blocks in set hotbar positions avoid losing their layout to a stray keypress.
Who it’s for: Players who often swap items by accident and want the number keys to stop changing slots. Anyone who still wants the vanilla behavior can turn it back on in the config or hold the modifier key.
