No Block Loot

by Klinbee

No Block Loot is a data pack that stops chests, pots, barrels and archaeology blocks from dropping their loot when broken.

FabricForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.20.6

What it does

Breaking a chest, pot, barrel or archaeology block normally yields the items stored in or generated by it. The data pack removes those drops, so the block leaves nothing behind. The mod is built as a challenge for testing what can be done with little access to resources, and its author notes that it makes progression noticeably slower.

The mod is distributed as a data pack and also as Fabric, Forge and Quilt files, all for 1.20 – 1.20.6. The server must run it, while a player's client may leave it out. It is released under the MIT License and is open source. Its author says it works with custom chest loot tables added or modified through data packs, though the author describes this only in general terms.

Key features

  1. Removes block drops

Chests, pots, barrels and archaeology blocks no longer drop their contents when broken.

  2. Covers archaeology blocks

Blocks from archaeology are included in the loot removal alongside the storage containers.

  3. Data pack delivery

The changes are applied by a data pack, so the same behavior can be installed without a loader mod.

  4. Custom loot tables

Loot tables added or changed by other data packs are described by the author as compatible.

Use cases

Challenge runs

Players who want a harder survival run can remove the container loot that normally speeds up early progression.

Resource-limited testing

The mod is suited to testing how far a world can progress when resources must be gathered by hand.

Who it’s for: Players who want a harder progression, and server owners who want the same restriction for everyone on a server.

What the author says

This is meant to just be a challenge data pack testing the limits of what you can achieve with so little access to resources. Surprisingly you can actually make a lot of progression with this. One of the most notable issues is wood, but there is a way to get planks, but I'll leave that for you to figure out. Yes you…
