NineBlock

by FlameFire

NineBlock is a Minigame datapack for survival-style play, where a 3x3 arrangement of blocks is built and kept up as the world changes.

FabricForgeNeoForgeQuiltServer required, client optionalAll rights reserved1.20 – 1.21.10

What it does

NineBlock is a pure datapack, so it runs without a mod loader and is also listed for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. It is published for Data pack as well as the four loaders, across 18 release versions, 1.20 – 1.21.10. The server is the side that must run it, while a player may add it on the client, so servers need it and clients may leave it out.

The datapack ships an improved NineBlock world, with triggers for invulnerability, particles and creating a 3x3 build, plus a language option that changes the text players see. Dropped items and leaves that refresh automatically disappear unless mined, and tag commands grant or remove datapack permissions for operators. Creating a world suited to more game versions is simpler because no separate map is needed, unlike the original project's map plus datapack setup.

The first release was published on 2024-05-14 and the latest file, 1.5+mod for 1.21.10, dated 2025-10-01. The code is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.

Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators who want a NineBlock minigame, and players who join a server that runs it.

Questions

Does NineBlock need a mod loader?

No. It is a pure datapack, so no loader is needed, although Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt builds are also listed.

Does a player need NineBlock installed?

Not necessarily. Servers must run it, but a client may leave it out, so a player can join without installing it.

Which game versions does NineBlock support?

Files cover 1.20 – 1.21.10, and the latest file for every loader is 1.5+mod for 1.21.10.

What the author says

Unlike the original project (map + datapack), this's a pure datapack (or mod) that needs to be used when creating the world, and is suitable for more game versions.
