NeoReefRedux

by Andriyko69

Coral reefs generated by vanilla Minecraft sit flat on the seabed, and NeoReefRedux replaces them with rocky coral outcrops that look more natural underwater.

What it does

NeoReefRedux changes coral reef world generation. Instead of coral growing directly on a flat seabed, reefs now generate as rocky outcrops that spread into varied, natural-looking underwater terrain. The mod works with vanilla coral blocks, so the existing coral types keep their look.

The mod runs on the server only, so players join a server running it without installing anything. It is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker. The only published build is 1.0 for 1.21.1, released on 2026-03-03 for NeoForge.

Key features

  1. Rocky coral reefs

Reefs generate as rocky formations with coral growing on them, instead of thin layers on flat seabed.

  2. Natural shapes

Outcrops vary in height and spread, so the underwater terrain looks less uniform across a world.

  3. Vanilla coral support

The reefs use vanilla coral blocks, so the generated coral matches the blocks players already know.

  4. Config option

A config option lets server owners adjust the generation of the reefs.
