Nbt Crafting

by Siphalor

Nbt Crafting lets server owners define recipes in JSON data that match on NBT data in their inputs and outputs, extending the vanilla datapack recipe system.

FabricServer required, client optionalApache License 2.0Open source1.15 – 1.19.2

What it does

Recipes are written as JSON files and can add new brewing recipes, cauldron recipes and anvil recipes. Because the mod reintroduces a data attribute, a recipe can require a specific NBT value on an ingredient and produce an output with chosen NBT. Everything stays visible in the vanilla interface, and the recipe book shows the output amount for the recipes the mod adds. The mod also provides its own scripting language for more complex behavior, and the project wiki explains the features in more detail.

The mod is published for Fabric only, across 15 release versions 1.15 – 1.19.2, with snapshot builds also published. Nbt Crafting requires Fabric API. Its license is Apache License 2.0, and the mod is open source. Minor cosmetic issues can appear on the client, and the author asks people who run into bugs to open an issue on GitHub.

Key features

  1. JSON recipes with NBT

Crafting, cooking and other recipes are defined in JSON and can match or produce NBT data on items.

  2. Brewing and cauldron recipes

New brewing recipes, cauldron recipes and anvil recipes can be added through data files.

  3. Recipe book output amounts

The recipe book displays the output amount for the recipes added by the mod.

  4. Built-in scripting language

The mod includes its own scripting language for recipes that need logic beyond a static JSON definition.

Use cases

Custom tools from existing items

A recipe can combine enchanted or named items through their NBT, for example to build a battle axe from two diamond swords.

Pack and server customization

Server owners and pack authors can add or change recipes without writing a mod, by editing JSON files.

Who it’s for: Server owners, datapack authors and modpack makers who want recipes that depend on item NBT data, and players on those servers.

What the author says

This mod extends the vanilla json datapack/recipe system. It does not provide an own scripting language. It's a "simple" fabric mod which allows you to add/change JSON crafting/cooking/etc. recipes to use nbt input and output.
