MVS - Moog's Voyager Structures (config pack)

by FinnDog_123

A datapack named MVS, Moog's Voyager Structures, controls which structures generate and where in a Fabric world.

FabricServer required, client optionalMIT LicenseOpen source1.18.2 – 26.3

What it does

The mod is a customisable datapack rather than a set of code. Everything it generates is data-driven, so a world owner can remove structures, change how rare they are, or change the biomes they spawn in by editing JSON files. A template of the datapack is included as the starting point for these changes.

MVS is loaded through a datapack: drop the zip into the saves datapacks folder of a single world, or use a datapack loader such as Paxi to apply it globally across every world on a server. Changes made to the unzipped folder take effect after saving, re-zipping and reloading the pack in-game, which regenerates the world.

Installation needs Fabric, and the environment is server required with client optional, so a server must run the datapack for its worlds while players may leave it out. Files are published for 30 release versions 1.18.2 – 26.3, and the code is open source under the MIT License.

Key features

  1. Removing structures

Emptying the structures array of a structure set file stops that structure from spawning anywhere in the world.

  2. Spacing and separation

Raising a structure set's spacing makes it rarer, and the separation value must always stay smaller than the spacing.

  3. Biome control

Biome tags under data/mvs/tags decide where each structure spawns, and entries can be added or removed in matching files.

  4. Full reference

A per-file customisation reference documents every setting, while the common tweaks are covered by the task list in the author notes.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Players who want to change structure placement in a survival or adventure world, and server owners who manage worlds with a custom structure set. Editing the JSON files requires some coding knowledge.

How it compares

Full comparison

First Steps is client and server and not open source, with Fabric, Forge and NeoForge files for 1.20 – 26.3, so it changes the game on both sides rather than only the datapack. No More Structures: Full is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and built for Fabric across 1.18.2 – 1.21, which covers an older version range than MVS. Sparse Structures is open source under the MIT License, and its files cover 1.19 – 26.3 for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge.

Questions

Does MVS need Fabric to work?

Yes. The loader listed for MVS is Fabric, and its files target Fabric game versions 1.18.2 – 26.3.

Can MVS be applied to every world on a server?

Yes. Using a datapack loader such as Paxi applies the pack globally instead of per world.

How is a structure made rarer?

Open its structure set file in data/mvs/worldgen and increase the spacing value, keeping separation smaller than spacing.
