Multi Chat

by mobilelize

Multi Chat replaces the single scrolling vanilla chat feed with a panel system, so players can split messages across tabs on the client.

FabricClient-side onlyGNU General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.21 – 26.3

What it does

Vanilla chat keeps one feed, and system messages, plugin broadcasts and player messages all land in the same place and scroll out of view together. Multi Chat rebuilds that chat from the ground up with two independent panels: the left panel is always shown, and the right panel is optional and can be toggled in Settings. Each panel can hold many tabs, and the mod caps the number of panels at two.

Tabs can be filled automatically by per-tab filter rules that route messages by whitelist or blacklist, and they can also be set up as a layered routing pipeline. Advanced setups use a Difference Mode, where a tab sits as a priority layer, and exception and inclusion flags catch what nothing else caught. Notes live in their own tab and are never touched by chat routing, so they persist independently of the running log.

The mod is client-side only, so players install it alone and servers run without it. It is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later and is published for 1.21 – 26.3, with 26.3+1.0.1 for 26.3 as the latest Fabric file. Fabric is the only loader.

Key features

  1. Multi-panel tabbed chat

Messages are organized across customizable panels, and each tab can have its own rules, badges and timestamps.

  2. Click and double-click selection

Text can be selected by dragging, and double-clicking a word or a player's name inside brackets selects it.

  3. Message context menu

Right-clicking a message offers copy, copy with timestamp, search, quick actions, adding a note and jumping to the source.

  4. Tab context menu

Right-clicking a tab allows clearing, renaming, toggling badges or timestamps, collapsing, scrolling, exporting to the clipboard and reordering tabs.

  5. Collapsed repeated messages

Identical messages collapse into a single line with a counter such as x3, and the counter format can be customized.

Questions

Does Multi Chat need to be installed on the server?

No. Only the player's game needs it, and servers run without it.

Which loader does Multi Chat use?

Multi Chat is published for Fabric only. The latest file is 26.3+1.0.1 for 26.3, released 2026-09-27.

Can notes be lost when chat messages scroll away?

No. Notes live in their own tab, which chat routing never touches, so they persist independently of the running log.
