More Overlays Updated

by RiDGo8

With More Overlays Updated installed, the client draws mob spawn markers, a chunk border grid and a JEI-powered item search overlay on top of the game screen.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.15 – 1.21.1

What it does

Pressing F7 turns on a light level overlay that marks blocks with a yellow X where monsters can spawn at night and a red X where they can always spawn. Pressing F9 opens a chunk boundaries overlay with three modes, which add red and yellow lines at the chunk corners and center, then a green grid along the chunk edges, then a region outline with the matching save file shown in the top left corner.

The project began with FeldiM245 and is now kept up to date by RiDGo8. It is available for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 16 release versions, 1.15 – 1.21.1, and the environment is client-side only, so servers do not need it. The code is under the MIT License and is open source. Just Enough Items is an optional dependency that powers the item search feature.

Key features

  1. Mob spawn overlay

Marks spots where monsters appear at night or at any time, drawn as yellow or red X symbols.

  2. Chunk boundaries overlay

Three cycling modes show chunk corners, chunk edges and the matching Minecraft region outline.

  3. Region save file display

The third chunk boundaries mode names the matching save file in the top left of the screen.

  4. Item search highlighting

Highlights matching items using the search algorithm from Just Enough Items when that mod is installed.

Use cases

Finding mob spawn areas

Players checking where monsters can appear at night can toggle the light level overlay with F7.

Mapping chunk layouts

Players working out chunk and region boundaries in a world can cycle through the chunk overlay modes with F9.

Who it’s for: Players who want to see spawn conditions or chunk layout while playing on a single-player world or a multiplayer server. Because the mod is client-side only, it can be added without any server changes.

Questions

Does More Overlays Updated need Just Enough Items?

No. Just Enough Items is optional. Without it the mod still draws the mob spawn and chunk overlays, but the item search highlighting only works when Just Enough Items is installed.

Does the mod have to be installed on the server?

No. It is installed on the player's side alone, so servers need nothing.

Is there a config file on Fabric?

The author states that a config file for Fabric is not available yet but will be added in the future.
