Mirage, a NeoForge mod by Perxenic Studios, extends desert and mesa biomes with new mobs, blocks, ruins and items that expand the vanilla experience in hot regions.

What it does

Mirage adds content to hot biomes that vanilla leaves sparse. Armadillos can be befriended, and their scutes can be crafted into chestplates that protect against scaring. Faded Terracotta and patterned glazed terracotta give builders new materials for ruins and decorative structures.

Ruined structures are scattered across hot biomes, where players can use a brush to uncover archaeology sherds and resources that help in the early game. A bundle alternative built from scutes lets players organise inventory without killing animals. The bundle is marked as an experimental feature.

Each feature can be switched on or off in the config file, including the ability to craft sherds and the rarity of faded terracotta, which can be made uncraftable. The mod requires NeoForge and runs on client and server. Its files exist for 1.21.1 and 26.1, with the latest beta NeoForge file, 26.1-0.3.1, published on 2026-03-25. The code is open source under the Apache License 2.0.
