Melancholic Beds

Melancholic Beds changes how beds, sleep, insomnia and phantoms behave, so that beds mainly serve to set a respawn point and the first nights are harder.
What it does
Sleeping is disabled by default, and beds are crafted with a different recipe: string cannot be used in place of wool, so the player must first obtain shears and find a sheep, since sheep only drop wool when sheared. Insomnia is removed, and phantoms no longer bother a player after three nights without sleep unless a game rule is changed. Phantoms spawn in swamps, including mangrove swamps at night, which keeps biomes more distinct and leaves phantom membranes accessible.
The mod is a Fabric mod for the 1.21.1 – 26.3 range, with the latest file 1.0 for 26.3, published on 2026-09-15. It runs on the client and the server, so the server and every player need it. Fabric API and YetAnotherConfigLib (YACL) are required. Features can be toggled through a GUI config screen, which needs Mod Menu to open. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker.

Harder bed crafting
Wool cannot be crafted from strings, so beds require shearing a sheep, and sheep drop wool only when sheared.

Phantasmic Flight is a Fabric mod for 1.21.1 – 26.3 that runs on client and server and is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later. Beds Spawn Phantoms is not open source, is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt 1.19.1 – 26.2, and is server required with an optional client, so it works from the server side alone.
