Mekanism: Mekalights

by MrPochy

Players who build large Mekanism bases need light that does not clutter the space, and MekaLights supplies five light shapes fed by Mekanism power.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

MekaLights adds one block that floods an area with invisible, full-brightness light emitters, reaching up to a 48-block radius from a single placement. Torches stop being needed in caves, factories and farms because the light covers the same ground without leaving blocks on the floor or walls.

The block accepts Mekanism power and is configured from a side panel in a Mekanism-style interface. The panel shows the chosen shape, range, brightness and aperture, along with a live energy readout. Jade is required on both client and server, and the mod needs Mekanism as a dependency. The files cover Forge and NeoForge across 7 release versions, and the code is covered by All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Five light shapes

Sphere, disc, cone, dome and cylinder each cover a different kind of space, from full 3D volumes to flat floors.

  2. Adjustable brightness and aperture

A dial sets light intensity from dim to full, and the cone and dome apertures run from 15° to 90° with six aimable directions.

  3. Cylinder height control

The cylinder shape has an adjustable column height from 4 to 32 blocks.

  4. Live side panel

The GUI shows shape, direction, range, brightness and aperture with pixel icons, plus a live energy readout.

Use cases

Cave and big room lighting

The sphere shape fills caves and large rooms in full 3D, so one block replaces many torches.

Mob-proofing floors

The disc shape lights a flat layer across floors and fields, which helps keep hostile mobs from spawning there.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners running industrial-scale Mekanism bases who want lighting that stays out of the way.

How it compares

Full comparison

Mekanism Lights is another lighting option for the same versions, with Forge and NeoForge files, but it is not open source. Mekanism Covers is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and covers the same loaders, which suits a different part of a base.

Yes. Mekanism is a required dependency, and the block draws its power from Mekanism.

Does MekaLights have to be installed on both sides?

Yes. Servers that run it need every player to install it too.

Which loaders does MekaLights support?

Files exist for Forge and NeoForge, with the latest NeoForge file for 1.21.1 and the latest Forge file for 1.20.6.

What the author says

One block. Full base lighting. Powered by Mekanism. Stop torch-spamming your caves, factories and farms. Place one MekaLight Block, feed it Mekanism power, pick a shape, range and brightness — the machine floods the area with invisible, full-brightness light emitters. One block, up to a 48-block radius, zero clutter.
