Lycanites Mobs

by Lycanite

With Lycanites Mobs installed, a Forge or NeoForge world gains over 100 new creatures spread across biomes, dimensions and dungeons.

What it does

The mod adds a large set of creatures, from peaceful farmable animals to hostile monsters such as Grues, and specific biomes and dimensions where they spawn. Some of the creatures are elementals that can start fires or hide in tall grass, and alpha variants of the mobs appear as stronger versions. A creature list is kept on the project wiki. Lycanites Mobs runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. It is published for Forge and NeoForge, for 1.20.1.

Taming and summoning form a second layer of play. Players can tame creatures, bind a mount with a Soulstone, and summon or dismiss allies from a Summoning Staff or a Summoning Pedestal. Summoned minions can be given orders to hold a position or guard an area. Its Beastiary is opened from the mod's own menus. One other mod in the catalog requires Lycanites Mobs, and it is an add-on rather than a dependency.

The mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and the source code is publicly available. Versions up to 1.16.5 require Forge, while 1.20.1 has builds for both Forge and NeoForge. Lycanites Mobs was first published on 2026-05-19 and last updated on 2026-08-01.

Key features

  1. Over 100 new creatures

Creatures are placed in specific biomes and dimensions, ranging from farmable reptiles to horrific monsters.

  2. Taming and summoning

Players can tame creatures, bind mounts with a Soulstone and summon minions from a staff or a pedestal.

  3. Equipment crafting

Creatures drop Equipment Parts that a Forge assembles into weapons and tools, and the result depends on the mix of parts.

  4. Configurable dungeons

Randomised dungeons end in a boss floor, and their layout and rewards can be changed through JSON files.

Questions

Does Lycanites Mobs need another mod to work?

No required dependency is listed for Forge and NeoForge. One add-on in the catalog requires it, so the dependency runs the other way.

Does the server need the mod installed?

Yes. Every player and the server need a copy of the mod.

Which loaders are available for the current build?

Version 1.20.1 has files for both Forge and NeoForge, and the latest alpha file is dated 2026-08-01.

What the author says

Versions 1.16.5 and below require Forge whereas versions 1.20.1 and above may support other versions! I have looked into Fabric but I'd have to rebuild the entire mod, and Forge is still going strong and is still the king of modded Minecraft with no signs of stopping. Be sure to support the Forge devs, as without…
