Mapbook
by Lordphenex
Mapbook adds a book item that holds maps, and an atlas that displays them in item frames, so explorers can carry many maps in one slot.
What it does
Two items join the game: the map book and the map atlas. The map book can hold 32 maps in one slot, and maps picked up while it is in the main hand are placed inside it automatically. The active map can be changed with the sneak and swap keys, dropped with the drop key, or placed directly into an item frame. The map atlas holds up to 16 maps arranged in a grid, and its contents are viewed by moving the atlas with the movement keys, which shift the view in the direction the player faces. An atlas can also be displayed in an item frame array, and maps placed in a map-filled frame can be added to the atlas by sneaking.
Only the server needs the mod to be running, and players may leave it out, so the server must run it while clients can skip it. It is released under the Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial No Derivatives 4.0 license and is not open source. Files exist for 1.20.6 and later, 17 release versions in total, and the latest build is Modded_1.20.6+_V1.0 for 26.2, published on 2026-08-13. Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt each have files, and a data pack version is also available.

How it compares
Just Atlas is the closest alternative and also targets server installs, with files for 1.21.4 – 26.2 on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt under the same Creative Commons license, so it is not open source. Map Atlases [Forge] is client and server, covers 1.20.1 – 26.1.2 on Forge and NeoForge, and is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only.
