Lithosphere
by Jayzet
Gigantic continents, deep oceans and smoother terrain are what Lithosphere changes in the overworld, as a server-side world generation mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt.
What it does
Lithosphere reshapes overworld terrain so continents are separated by deep oceans, where islands and archipelagos occasionally appear. Coastlines are mostly wide beaches that slope into the sea, while steep cliffs appear near mountainous regions. Mountain ranges replace the vanilla onion-ring shapes with less pointed peaks that can rise much higher than in vanilla, and karst regions can form along the way.
Rivers are rarer here and carve valleys through mountains, and swamps generate apart from windswept biomes, often at lower elevations. Temperature and humidity regions are larger, so biomes are less condensed while staying varied. The mod needs Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt, and only the server has to run it: players may join without installing it. Its files cover 1.19 – 26.2, and the latest build is 1.8.2+mod for 26.2, published on 2026-08-28. The code is not open source and is licensed under All rights reserved.

Large and small continents are split by deep oceans, with occasional islands and archipelagos between them.
Cliffs and beaches
Gradual beaches meet the ocean, and steep, more realistic cliffs rise near mountainous areas.
Taller, softer mountains
Mountain ranges have less pointed peaks and can grow much higher than vanilla terrain.
Rivers and lakes
Rivers are less common and carve valleys through mountains, while large lakes can appear anywhere.
Larger climate regions

Use cases
Server worlds
Server owners can install Lithosphere so that new chunks use the reshaped overworld without any client-side setup.

Larion World Generation is server-side only, open source under the Apache License 2.0, and published for 1.19 – 1.21.4 on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Orchard is server-side only, open source under the MIT License, and built for Fabric and NeoForge across 1.21.1 – 26.2. Lithosphere requires the server, with clients optional, and is not open source.

What the author says
Lithosphere aims to change the overworld worldgen to be more cinematic, polished and beautiful. Most worldgen mods (like Biomes O' Plenty, Nature's Spirit,...) should be compatible, but lithosphere changes the deafult noise_settings so worldgen datapacks that change the overworld will be incompatible.
