Light Meals, a Forge mod by hashtag233, adds more than 70 foods and dishes that players can cook and eat like the vanilla ones.

What it does

The mod extends the food system of Minecraft with new foods that use ingredients already available in the game. The new dishes are craftable at a crafting table or in a furnace, and two new cakes can be placed and eaten slice by slice, as vanilla cakes are. The author notes that Glow Berries were the only food added in recent years at the time of writing, which is the gap the mod was made to fill.

Light Meals is released under the MIT License and is open source, with public source code and an issue tracker. The server and every player need the mod installed. Files are published for Forge only, covering seven release versions 1.16.1 – 1.18.2, and the latest file, 2.0, targets 1.18.2 and was published on 2022-09-01. Backport requests are ignored because the project targets Forge alone.

Key features

  1. Over 70 new foods

How it compares

Full comparison

Light Meals is open source under the MIT License and runs on client and server on Forge 1.16.1 – 1.18.2. Food Coma: More Foods is also a Forge mod, built for 1.20.1 – 1.21 and released under All rights reserved. Cheesy Foods n' Stuff targets only 1.20.1 and has the same client and server environment, under All rights reserved. Food flood is a Forge mod for 1.18.2 with the same environment and the same All rights reserved license, so for that version the choice between them is about the foods each one adds.

What the author says

Minecraft has the great potential of expanding its food system using currently available ingredients, yet it does not seem like they are interested in using that, since no foods except the Glow Berries have been added since 1.15. Light Meals Mod is intended to change such situation by providing spectacular foods and…
