Lag Goggles: Legacy
by FalsePattern
With Lag Goggles: Legacy, a player can point the view at a machine, pipe or entity and see how much tick time it costs on the game thread.
What it does
The mod is a backport of TerminatorNL's LagGoggles to Minecraft 1.7.10, adapted for the Forge loader. It teleports the player to lag sources, shows a client GUI with an overlay and clickable menus, and colours each source on a scale so the heaviest ones stand out. Calculations run on the client and use a separate colour scale, and client-side FPS support is included. The checks measure how long rendering takes for entities, tile entities and event subscribers.
Lag Goggles: Legacy requires FalsePatternLib and UniMixins to run. Either side can run it, and neither needs it. The mod is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Files exist for 1.7.10 only, and the latest Forge file is 4.17.0 for 1.7.10, published on 2025-03-28.
Key features
Lag source teleport
A teleport action moves the player to a source that the scan has flagged as costly.
Colour-scaled sources
Each source is coloured on a scale, so the heavy ones are simple to spot from a distance.
Client GUI and overlay
An overlay with clickable menus lists sources and lets the player act on them directly.
Render-time checks
Render time is measured for entities, tile entities and event subscribers.

Use cases
Finding lag in a base
A player who notices stutter in a factory can scan the area and see which machines, pipes or cables cost the most time.
Server diagnosis
Server owners can use the mod to learn what causes lag on the server, including common mistakes such as spreading machines across many chunks.
Who it’s for: Players and server owners on Minecraft 1.7.10 who want to find what is costing tick time in a modded world. The mod suits builds that already run Forge and the two required libraries.
How it compares
FPS - Display (Forge) is client-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and built for 1.12.2, so it covers frame rate rather than tick cost. Entity Glow (Backport) is client-side only, released under the MIT License, and targets 1.8.9, where it highlights entities instead of measuring them. ModernF3 is client-side only and open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later for 1.8.9, showing debug information.

What the author says
A backport of TerminatorNL's LagGoggles to 1.7.10. You can use LagGoggles as a player too! This is my attempt to create an understanding of what causes lag on a server to regular players.
