Kreezxil's Compressed Blocks

by kreezxil

Kreezxil's Compressed Blocks lets players compress common blocks into denser forms, so bulk storage takes less space and inventories stay manageable.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.8.9 – 1.18.2

What it does

Players often run out of room because common blocks fill chests quickly. The mod provides compressed versions of those blocks, and each compression tier packs several blocks into one item. Recipes are laid out on the crafting grid, with nine base items forming the first compressed block, and nine of those forming the next tier.

The mod adds compressed coal blocks with a high burn time. A compressed coal block burns for 144,000 ticks, and a double compressed coal block for 1,296,000 ticks, which makes them a dense fuel for furnaces. Coal is not the only path: the author notes that the mod supports chains of compression beyond the first two tiers, and the 1.17.1 build covers vanilla fuel use as well.

The mod runs on Forge for 1.8.9, 1.17.1 and 1.18.2. Its files are released under the MIT License, the source code and issue tracker are public, and the environment is client and server, so the server and every player need it. The latest file is 1.0.12 for 1.18.2, dated 2022-06-13. The author plans further compressed materials in later updates.

Key features

  1. Compressed block chains

Each tier is built from nine of the previous tier on a crafting grid, so the chain can continue upward.

  2. Compressed coal fuel

Compressed coal blocks burn for 144,000 ticks and double compressed coal blocks for 1,296,000.

  3. Compressed cobblestone

Nine cobblestone combine into one compressed cobblestone, the first step in the compression chain.

  4. Demonstration video

The author links a demonstration video that shows the compression recipes in use.

Use cases

Storage management

Players who fill chests with bulk blocks can compress them to free slots in long-running survival worlds.

Fuel storage

Compressed coal stores more fuel per slot than raw coal, which suits furnace-heavy bases.

Who it’s for: Players and server owners who want to reduce inventory clutter from bulk blocks in survival worlds, and builders who want compact fuel stocks.
