JJElytraSwap
by JavaJumper
JJElytraSwap is a client-side utility for Fabric and NeoForge that swaps a worn chestplate for an elytra while the player is airborne.
What it does
When the player presses the jump key while in the air, the chestplate in the armor slot is exchanged for an elytra, so gliding works without a manual inventory change. On landing, the original chestplate goes back on. The player uses the elytra as usual; the switch happens without extra steps.
The mod also carries an armor selection routine from version 2.0 onward. It scores each chestplate and equips the one with the highest score. Protection points count for 2 each, toughness points for 1 each, and the diamond chestplate scores 2 toughness points while the netherite chestplate scores 3. Other materials score 0.
Because only the player's client runs the logic, it changes nothing on a server side. Fabric API is required, and Mod Menu is optional. The code is released under CC0 1.0 Universal, and the source code and issue tracker are public. Files cover 1.18 – 26.3 on Fabric and NeoForge, with the latest 2.4.0 file for 26.3 published on 2026-10-01 on the beta channel.
Key features
Automatic chestplate swap
Pressing jump in mid-air swaps the chestplate for the elytra, and the chestplate is restored when the player lands.
Score-based chestplate choice
The armor routine picks the chestplate with the highest combined protection and toughness score.
Material scoring
Protection points, toughness points and material values are weighted so the diamond and netherite chestplates rank above other materials.
