Item Glow
by BoboTweaks
With Item Glow installed, items that ship an emissive texture variant keep full brightness in hand and in inventory screens.
What it does
Item Glow adds emissive rendering for items. When an item has a texture variant whose name ends in _emissive, the mod detects it automatically and draws that variant at full brightness. The effect applies to in-hand models and inventory GUI renders, the places where a glowing item would otherwise look dim. Items without an emissive variant render as before.
The mod is built to fill a gap the base game leaves open, without adding new content of its own. It is a lightweight client-side mod with minimal performance impact, and it works alongside most rendering content mods. Modded items and resource packs are supported, and the mod relies on shaders being present through OptiFine. Its configuration is handled by the mod's own config files.
Installation is client-side only: only the client needs it, and a server running without it still works for players who join. Item Glow is published for Fabric alone, for 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10 and 1.21.11, with 1.0.0 for 1.21.11 as the latest file. The code is under the MIT License, so it is not open source.
Key features
Automatic emissive detection
Items whose texture set includes an _emissive variant are found and rendered without extra setup.
Full-brightness rendering
The emissive variant is drawn at full brightness, so the glow stays visible in dark areas.
In-hand and GUI rendering
The effect covers held items and inventory slots, the two places players see items most often.
Resource pack support
Custom item textures and modded items work with the mod when they supply an emissive variant.

How it compares
QuickAccess is server-side only, is not open source and is published for 1.21.11 only, so it covers a different job. Dimensional Brightness Control is client-side only, is not open source and targets 1.21.4 – 1.21.5, while Sun Shader Extension is client-side only, is open source under the MIT License and targets 1.21.1.

What the author says
Any item that uses an _emissive texture variant will render at full brightness - glowing in your hand, in inventories, and anywhere items are rendered. No shaders. No OptiFine. This is a lightweight, client-side mod designed to feel like a missing vanilla feature.
