Sun Shader Extension

Sun Shader Extension lets resource pack creators supply sun textures for different dimensions, and it works alongside shaders.

What it does

Pack authors name sun texture files after the namespace and dimension they belong to, and the mod picks the matching texture when a player is in that dimension. With shaders enabled, the correct sun is drawn for the dimension the player is in. Where no texture is supplied for a given dimension, the default Minecraft sun is shown instead. The mod is a Fabric client mod that needs Iris Shaders to be installed alongside it, and the release for 1.21.1 is version 1.0.0, released on 2024-09-19 under the MIT License. The project is not open source.

  1. Per-dimension sun textures

    Resource packs can provide a separate sun texture for each dimension, so the sun can change in the Nether or End.

  2. Sample pack pattern

    An example pack shows how texture files are named for a namespace and dimension, so creators can copy the pattern.

  3. Fallback to the default sun

    Dimensions without a supplied texture keep the default Minecraft sun, so nothing breaks in packs that cover only some dimensions.
