Iron Barrels

by FluffyMoment

Iron Barrels is a storage mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge that adds barrels in several tiers, each holding more items than the last.

FabricForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.12.2 – 1.21.8

What it does

Each barrel tier has more slots than the one before it. A player moves up a tier by crafting the next barrel and placing a barrel upgrade on the existing one, so the storage grows without rebuilding the setup. The tiers run from the base Iron Barrel up through Gold, Diamond and Obsidian variants, and Netherite barrels appear on versions from 1.16.5 onward. Obsidian barrels hold the same number of slots as diamond barrels, but use the harder, blast-resistant properties of obsidian.

Storage capacity is the main reason to use the mod, and the tiers suit survival bases, automated farms and multiplayer servers where item sorting matters. Blocks break only with strong tools and resist explosions, which keeps stored items safe. Recipes can be disabled or enabled in a configuration file, and the barrels are built on Iron Core, which is required next to Fabric API on Fabric. The mod runs on the client and the server, so both need it. Iron Barrels is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Tiered barrel capacity

Barrels come in several tiers, such as Iron, Gold and Diamond, and each tier stores more items than the one below.

  2. Obsidian barrels

Obsidian barrels hold the same number of slots as diamond barrels and are harder to break, with high blast resistance.

  3. Netherite barrels

From 1.16.5 on, a netherite barrel holds nearly 140 slots. On 1.12.2 it is added with the FutureMC Unseen's Nether Backport installed.

  4. Configurable recipes

A config file lets server owners disable or enable the barrel recipes that Iron Core adds.

  5. Upgrades by crafting

A player upgrades an existing barrel to a higher tier by crafting the matching barrel upgrade, not by replacing the barrel.
