Idler
by Kryeit
Idler is a server-side AFK management mod that lets players mark themselves as idle and kicks inactive players after a set timeout.
What it does
Idler tracks player activity on a server. Actions such as moving the camera, breaking or placing blocks, using items, joining the server and running commands count as activity and reset the idle timer. A player can also toggle AFK status by hand, and the tab list shows that player's name in gray while the status is active.
Server owners set an idle timeout in seconds. Idler does not kick anyone until that timeout is reached. A start-kick threshold sets how many free slots must remain before kicking begins, so a mostly empty server keeps idle players connected. The mod depends on LuckPerms for permission checks.
Idler is released under the MIT License and is open source. Its files exist for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, covering 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with version 1.2 as the latest build on every loader. It was first published on 2025-01-27 and last updated on 2025-03-16.
Key features
Idle timeout
Server owners set the number of seconds a player may stay inactive before Idler removes them from the server.
Free-slot threshold
Kicking starts only when the number of free slots falls to a configured value, so idle players are not removed on quiet servers.
Manual AFK toggle
Players can switch their AFK status on or off by command, and the tab list marks them in gray while they are idle.
Activity detection
Moving the camera, breaking or placing blocks, using items and joining the server each reset the idle timer.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners who want idle players removed under a configurable rule, and players who want to show they are away from the keyboard. The mod has no client part, so players join without installing it.
How it compares
Afk Plus is server required with client optional and is not open source. Its files reach 1.18 – 26.1.1 and it is released under the MIT License. AFK Message is also server required with client optional, covering 1.16 – 1.21.8 under the MIT License. AFK Station is client-side only and carries an All rights reserved license, so it works differently from Idler, which runs only on the server.
