Horse Archery
by korre.remix
Horse Archery lets a player aim and fire a bow while riding a horse, with the horse's facing kept separate from the camera.
What it does
While a player draws a bow on horseback, the horse keeps following its own movement input, so WASD still steers it as the bow is drawn. The camera can turn freely to aim, and the horse does not turn to match it. Once the bow is drawn, the horse follows the camera direction, which lets the rider line up a shot the way a mounted archer would.
The mod only changes how aiming works for a rider. It is a Fabric mod for Minecraft 1.20.1 and newer releases in the 1.20 line, and it runs on the client alone, so a server does not need it. Its source code is open under the MIT License, and the code repository and issue tracker are public.
Installation needs Fabric Loader and Fabric API. Files exist for six game versions, 1.20.1 – 1.20.6, and the latest build, 2.0.1, targets 1.20.6 and was published on 2025-11-24.
Key features
Aiming while mounted
A rider can draw and aim a bow on horseback, the way a mounted archer would in combat.
Free camera during aim
The view can be moved around freely while a bow is drawn, without the horse turning to follow.
Horse keeps moving
Movement keys still steer the horse during a draw, so the rider can reposition while aiming.
Camera-led direction
Once the bow is drawn, the horse follows the camera direction, so the aim sets where it heads.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Mounted combat
Players who fight from horseback can shoot at enemies while keeping the horse moving.
Hunting from the saddle
A rider can track an animal across open ground and shoot without dismounting.
Who it’s for: Players on Fabric who ride horses in survival, adventure or exploration and want to shoot from the saddle. Only the client needs the mod, so it can be added to a multiplayer game without any server-side change.
How it compares
Archery Revamped is an open source MIT-licensed Fabric mod for 1.20.1 – 26.3 that runs on the client and server together, so it changes bow behavior on both sides. Horse Break Leaves is open source under CC0 1.0 Universal, Fabric only for 1.20.1, and server-side only, so players join without installing it. Horse Archery stays on the client and targets only the mounted aiming.
