What it does

Honk is a mob-and-technology mod for Quilt. Its central creature was thought extinct for years, but ancient amber containing Honk blood can be mined deep underground. Players process that blood to extract DNA, then breed Honks and optimize their genes. Combining Honks produces new types, such as the Iron Honk, and farming Honks yields the resources they provide. The design takes the feel of the Chickens Mod and adds some twists of its own.

The mod needs JamLib, Quilted Fabric API (QFAPI) / Quilt Standard Libraries (QSL) and oωo (owo-lib) to run. It is open source under the MIT License and supports Minecraft 1.20 and 1.20.1, with the latest Quilt file, 0.1.0-beta.16 for 1.20.1, published on the beta channel on 2023-08-25. Honk runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it.

Key features

  1. Amber mining

Ancient amber containing Honk blood is found deep underground and serves as the starting material for the Honk chain.

  2. DNA processing

Blood is processed into DNA, which feeds the breeding and genetics steps that follow.

  3. Gene breeding

Honks are bred and their genes optimized, so the traits of each generation can be shaped.

  4. Hybrid Honks

Combining two Honks creates new types, including the Iron Honk, each with different behavior and yields.

  5. Resource farming

Honks can be farmed for the resources they provide, supporting the technology side of the mod.

  6. WAILA support

Block and entity information displays work through WAILA derivatives such as WTHIT, and Tech Reborn content is included in the machine chain.

Use cases

Technology progression

Players working through an automated base can use the amber, DNA and breeding steps as a long resource project.

Server economies

On a shared server, Honk farms can provide a steady supply of materials for players who trade or build together.

Who it’s for: Players who enjoy mob-based farming and automated technology will find the mod's chain of machines and breeding steps suited to long survival worlds. Server owners who want a farm-based resource loop can add it to a Quilt setup.
